Caliman Agrícola is the first Brazilian company to develop seeds of the Hybrid Caliman 01. Nowadays, the seeds are imported from Taiwan, but Caliman expects to commercialize the papaya Formosa seeds named as Caliman01 and Caliman02 at the beginning of 2005.

The investments were about US$ 350.000 in research in the last four years. The project was developed with the UENF (Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense) and confirms the State of Espírito Santo as the world’s center for the commercialization of the hybrid seed of papaya between 1kg and 2 kg fruits. These fruits are predicted to enter the US market in 2005 to join the Golden Papaya Caliman.

The Hybrid Caliman 01 brings the best of the Papaya Formosa and the Sunrise Solo (known as papaya): a more intensified color, sweeter and firmer pulp, beside a better productivity.
